Chattin' with Hadley

Hadley's vocabulary has exploded the past couple months. She does seem to be a chatty kid! It's probably all kids at this age, but both of her daycare ladies have said that she sure does talk a lot. Wonder if they're trying to tell me something...

Adrian likes to teach Hadley to say funny things. Adrian is teaching her the Zimbabwean version of things. For example, a police car siren sounds like the European version, as in "beeee boughhhh, beeee boughhh" instead of the "woo woo woo" that we'd say. So when Hadley plays with her Elmo police car or if we pass one on the road, you hear her saying "beee boughhh" over and over. She also knows the Zimabwean version of motorcycle, which you'd have to hear Adrian say it to explain it. (Africans make up words by how the object sounds. Example: flip flops are called putter putters because that's the sound flip flops make. Funny, right?)

Grammy sent Hadley a book of Old McDonald stories and Hadley refers to the book as Donald. There are several different stories about animals but the one I always skipped over when I was reading it to her was the one about the fox and the rooster. I skipped over it because foxes don't make noises so I didn't think introducing her to foxes was important at this age. Sure, we've taught her about cows that say moo, sheep that say baa, etc. But why teach her about the fox? You see where this is going, don't you? Adrian, of course, is going to teach her about the fox to see how she says the word. And of course, Hadley can't say fox correctly. I'm sure you can guess how she says it.

So then Grammy comes for a visit and Hadley wants her to read her favorite book, Donald. Grammy indulges her. Grammy doesn't know the history of the fox and the rooster story. So there are different pictures of this fox and Grammy comes up with the mean fox and the sad fox. HILARITY ENSUES. Hadley walks around the house now talking about the mean fox. She repeats it over and over. We all die laughing!

I had to get it on video. Hadley wasn't in a very cooperative mood and really not very chatty (she has a heck of a cold right now) but I was able to catch a couple of her favorite words and phrases. Apparently she thinks she looks like her cousin Noah. She always says no when you ask her if her name is Hadley Mylinda Peech. Adrian was also the one to teach Hadley that Mama says "yak yak yak." In case you were wondering, Daddy says "blah blah blah." I think chats with Hadley are so fun! I look forward to what she'll say next.

Ch...ch...ch...changes

I've been working on updating this blog for the past 3 hours. (Thanks, Jamie, for the Scrapblog tip!) I've finally gotten it back to where it's somewhat readable, but it still isn't the greatest. It's a work in progress so bear with me.

I've had VH1 on in the background (you don't wanna know what awful show is on) and every other commercial is about Rob Thomas' new cd that comes out in two weeks. Sirius is already overplaying "Her Diamonds" but I can't help but crank it up every time it comes on. Video's kinda weird, but here it is. Do you recognize the actress?
